This coming February has been designated as the first ever Women In Horror Recognition Month. It shall be the first of many.
As we all know, women are an important part of film in all genres and the horror film industry is no exception. Yes, women do get a lot of recognition for the good they do and the legacies they leave behind, but Women In Horror have yet to be recognized in a manner such as this. And we're not just talking about the busty B movie bombshells that get covered in blood and gore while fighting passionately against the forces of darkness. The true legends...
What would Alien films have been without the talented miss Ripley? Who could scare the living crap out of grown men as easily as the possessed Regan in Exorcist? Or what about the brilliant female director, Mary Harron, who put herself on the front lines to take on an enraged group of feminists and bring us American Psycho?
And where does the blood come in? Well, you can't think "horror" without thinking of blood and guts and since we're quite attached to our vital organs, we Twisted Twins got to thinking about how we can give back in a way that honors Women in Horror and has a massive impact on the world. The answer seemed simple. Blood. After all, it's in you to give.
So, this February, we're inviting you to come along with us to bleed for Women in Horror. It's an incredibly good cause and something that many of us find off putting and terrifying. Time to face our fears and help out those who need us. Time to be fearless like the badass bitches we've come to love and idolize.
So, who can give?
You CANNOT donate if...
*You have traveled outside of the Canada and US, some countries are okay, but you must check in advance.
*You have been to the dentist in 2 to 3 days prior to donating.
*You have gotten a tattoo or piercing in 6 months prior.
*You have received an injection or FLU SHOT 2 days prior.
*You MUST feel completely well.
*You must be between 17 and 61 years of age.
*If you drink, you CAN donate.
*If you smoke marijuana, you CAN donate.
*If you are gay, you CAN donate.
For other questions, please don't hesitate to ask! We, ourselves, will be donating as well, of course! If you wish to come with us, let us know! We will be revealing our date of donation as we get closer to the date.
To book your appointment, call 1-888-2-DONATE (366283). Please book in advance by at least a couple of weeks.
And record your donation! We want PHOTOS, MESSAGES, and VIDEOS of you giving blood! PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED TO THOSE WHO CAN PROVE THAT THEY BLED FOR WOMEN IN HORROR!!
Should you have a FACEBOOK account, you can join the group HERE.
This event IS NOT limited to those in Vancouver. WHEREVER you are, we want you... to bleed for us. Let's paint the planet RED.

Happy Monday!
You know what? Mondays suck the big one, but what doesn't suck is new Crystal Skull Vodka. It came from the compelling archeological story of the mysterious 13 Crystal Heads which are believed to be between 5,000 and 35,000 years old.
But enough of that, I know we had you at "Vodka".
Have a gore~gasmic monday, boys and girls, from your friendly neighborhood Twisted Twins!

Being true enthusiasts and endless supporters of anyone with the courage and balls (and you gotta have big brass ones!) to go out and make film independently, twisted twin, Jen Soska, came out to help on a Zombie short film this past weekend supervising the blood and gore effects. Despite the challenges that the crew professionally tackled without missing a beat, the project was a huge success. Vancouver BLOOD SHOTS 2009 48hr Film Competiton
Something wicked this way comes...
Prepare for an upcoming short film from your favorite Twisted Twosome. A long time tradition in Vancouver at this very special time of year is BLOOD SHOTS. And, you may ask, is this "Blood Shots"? Happy you asked...
At 7:00pm on Friday October 23, registered participants are given envelopes containing a horror subgenre (in past years this has included haunted house, giallo, backwoods horror, necrophilia film and more!), a weapon, a prop and a line of dialogue. They then have 48 hours to return their finished 2-7 minute film on DVD!
Every year, there is a BLOODSHOTS screening hosted by The Celluloid Social Club, where the films are voted on by both the audience, and an in-person jury. This year's local jury consists of past Bloodshots winner Scott Belyea (TEN MINUTES BEFORE SHOWTIME), filmmaker Matt O'Mahoney (ELECTRIC FENCE) and genre cinema bad-boy Uwe Boll (STOIC, POSTAL)!
In-person jury prizes (from Rue Morgue, Maple Pictures, Happy Bats, Mondo Macabro DVD, Videomatica, The Rio Theatre and more) will be awarded on site immediately following the screenings and a short period of deliberation by the jury. Ballots will be handed out to the audience and collected after the screening. The results of these ballots will be combined with the online voting results to give us the overall Audience Winner.
These results will be posted online at www.myspace.com/bloodshotscanada on Monday Nov. 2. The jury winner and the overall audience winner are the two finalists that go on to the final round, being sent to the Grand Prize Juror for their shot at winning $1000!
This year's Grand Prize Juror is DAN O'BANNON (writer of ALIEN and TOTAL RECALL, writer/director of punk-horror classic RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD). We will be sending the top jury-winning film and the audience-winning film to Dan, he will NOT be at the screening in person.
SHOOTING: Friday October 23 - 7:00pm - Sunday October 25 - 7:00pm
SCREENING: Wednesday October 28 - 8:00pm at the Anza Club (3 W. 8th, Vancouver)
The 2009 Local Jury at the screening consists of past Bloodshots winner Scott Belyea (TEN MINUTES BEFORE SHOWTIME), director Matt O'Mahoney (ELECTRIC FENCE) and genre cinema bad-boy Uwe Boll (STOIC, POSTAL)!
So, what shall our entry be? Well, that's a secret and something we won't know 100% until we get our criteria on the 23rd. But you can expect, as always, nothing but the bloody best!!
For official information, check out their site HERE: http://www.myspace.com/bloodshotscanada

TWISTED TWINS INTERVIEWED BY THE CHAINSAW MAFIA
We were recently interviewed by Necromagickal of The Chainsaw Mafia. What is the Chainsaw Mafia? In their own, rad words--
"The Chainsaw Mafia was created and executed by women,
and we strongly believe that more women should jump into the
gigantic bucket of blood and guts.
We report on all sub genres of horror.
Men write for this site. Women write for this site.
If something offends you, please tell us about it,
so we may thoroughly report on the subject."
We had a really fun time doing this interview, Necromagickal is an intelligent and witty journalist and we would like to introduce you to his work starting with his interview of the Twisted Twins.

TWISTED TWINS DO PLAYLAND
In Vancouver (BC, Canada) there is a place called Playland which consists of rides, carnival treats, and games to win prizes at. It coincides with the PNE which is a lovely fair full of even more food, peddlers, lifestock, and shows.
Yesterday, we took a day off to play, ride, eat, win (two Hello Kitty knock offs, a cow, and a horsie), and see Chris Isaak -- he is rad. He had this to say.
What is it like when the Twisted Twins venture into the world? Well, here's some dude checking Sylv out unaware that Jen is filming (it's sideways). Enjoy!

The Twisted Twins, Jen and Sylvia Soska, along with CJ Wallis, of FortyFPS Productions, were invited onto Shameless, hosted by Jonathon Brown, on CiTR 101.9fm yesterday for a live two hour interview. But I digress, much like in the interview. A very lovely candid interview that can be heard here.

TWINS SEE INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS WITH SPECIAL GUEST ELI ROTH
The Scotiabank Theatre in downtown Vancouver had a special secret advance screening of "Inglourious Basterds" with special guest, director and Bear Jew, Eli Roth. The event was put on by CFOX and ROCK 101 and we'd like to give Mike Cohen a special thanks for enabling us to be present at this momentous event.
The film is everything you've heard and more. Certainly a masterpiece. The characters were amazingly developed and engaging and the story was incredible. The violent scenes were brilliantly executed. Though obviously playing out in a morbid time, it was filled with trade mark Tarantino humor and unexpected laughs. I'd say, "go see it" but unless you live in a cave, I'm sure you will.
And mister Eli Roth was unbelievable. Bloody smart, funny, and cooler than you could ever imagine. He was kind enough to meet with us after the screening and talk about projects, present and future.
Many more good things to come.

Today we sit down with Glen Schaefer, of the Province, for a more in depth chat. More to come!

THE CHAINSAW MAFIA UPCOMING REVIEW AND INTERVIEW
The wickedly awesome site, thechainsawmafia.com will be reviewing Dead Hooker In A Trunk. The Chainsaw Mafia was created and executed by women, and they strongly believe that more women should "jump into the gigantic bucket of blood and guts".
We'd certainly have to agree.
When recently contacted by Necromagickal, TCM staff writer and chainsaw swinger, we couldn't be more happy to send off a screener and jump at the chance for an interview.
Look for the interview and film review this summer!
