The Epic Manhattan Short Film Festival

Hey, what's sexy as hell and hails from New York? If you're thinking Patrick Bateman, you're right, but that's not what I'm thinking about... (this time)

It's the MANHATTAN SHORT FILM FESTIVAL! And what, pray tell, does that mean? A whole lot of radness, let me tell you...

An extraordinary global event will take place the week of September 26th to October 3rd 2010 when over 100,000 people in over 200 cities across six continents gather in Cinemas, Galleries, Museums and Cafes for one purpose...to view and vote on our Finalists' Films in the Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival

Our mission is to unite audiences across all seven continents of the globe for one week via the most compelling short films submitted each year. One World One Week One Festival is emblazoned within the rings that surround the Festivals Logo and it is this mantra that sets us apart from any other film event of the year.

NOTE
: MANHATTAN SHORT is NOT an ONLINE Film Festival. Films are distributed to our individual partnering cinemas throughout the world. MANHATTAN SHORT is not a Touring or traveling Film Festival...it is the world's first Global Film Festival, taking place in over 200 cities across 6 continents during one week. For a filmmaker who wants to get their short film out there, there is no greater test then MANHATTAN SHORT.

Our partnering cinemas are situated in Asia, Australia, Europe, South America and North America, including venues in all 50 States of the United States. In 2010 we will be adding venues in Africa to the event.

How do I enter my film for the 2010 Festival?
Simply submit your information online. An entry form will then be emailed to you. The deadline for entries is July 31st 2010

Become a National Sponsor of MANHATTAN SHORT
The Festival is the only film festival to be held in all 50 States of the United States of America, with over 120 cities participating in this event nationally. If you would like to find out more about how to become a national sponsor of MANHATTAN SHORT 2010 click on the above link.

You Be the Judge!
The Judges of the Finalists Films are you. Audiences at each venue will be handed a voting card upon entry to each cinema and asked to vote for the ONE film they think should win. Votes are tallied by each cinema and sent through to MANHATTAN SHORT HQ where the winner is announced on Sunday October 3rd in NYC

How Do I Find Out who the winner is?

The winners of the 2010 Manhattan Short Film Festival will be announced in the Press Center on Sunday October 3rd at 10:00 pm EST

Additionally, you guessed it, Dead Hooker will be crashing this party! The DHIAT MAYHEM
TRAILER and BAD GIRLS will be playing along side the other proud shorts of the festival. We're thrilled to be a part of this incredible festival!! Submit your film and play alongside us!

For all info on the festival and to see how you can SUBMIT YOUR SHORT, check out the site HERE. Now go and submit already! You don't want to miss an opportunity like this to get seen!

But, first, one more peek at mister Bateman...

...thanks, Patrick.

A Walk on the Wildside with Twisted Twins

Recently we had the absolute pleasure of speaking with Wildside Cinema. It is always a great pleasure to be asked things for the very first time. It was fun, thoughtful, thought provoking, and very in depth asking everything from "Why a Dead Hooker?" to "If I could ask you one patently offensive and sexist question meant to denigrate you and belittle your hard work, what would it be?" We can't even begin to say how much we appreciate the time and thought that was put into the questions. The result is an interview that cannot be missed.

Here's a little aperitif...
WC: Certain parts of the horror genre, namely the whole “Scream Queen” label, seems to have been hijacked and assimilated for mainstream commercial consumption. Even the indie world is exploiting it. How do you feel about the whole overblown “Scream Queen” trend? And what do you feel qualifies one to be a “Scream Queen?”

JS: There’s something very sexy about the image of a “Scream Queen”. People love to be scared and there’s a good reason for that. When you’re afraid, your body does the same things it does as when you’re turned on. Adrenalin is pumped into the blood stream, breathing becomes more rapid, and pupils dilate. And we all know sex sells. It’s a no-brainer that Hollywood would latch onto the “Scream Queen” label. What better way to present a sexed up image of horror to the masses and get them to perk up and pay attention?

SS: Scream Queen nowadays is synonymous with some hot chick who dies in a movie. It used to mean someone like Jaime Lee Curtis was in Halloween – that powerful female force that somehow always survives the murder rampage and kills the crazy motherfucker. I want it to become like that again. I think the genre is over saturated with these fluff-piece horror films with no thought or imagination. We need a Freddy or Pinhead to mix shit up again. No more remakes, just honest to goodness sweet original nightmares to thrill people at the theaters.

For the main course, check out the FULL WILDSIDE CINEMA INTERVIEW HERE. After all, you deserve your break today ;)

Excelsior~!!

Drunken Zombies and Dead Hookers, oh my...!

What's more fun than a DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK? A Drunken Zombie Film Festival!! How can you get even more wicked awesome than that? Bring the two together! And that, boys and grrls, is exactly what we have in store for you!! The Drunken Zombie Film Festival is an annual horror film festival held in Peoria, IL. It's taking place from November 5th to 7th. We couldn't be more excited for this festival! A very special thanks to Bryan Wolford and everyone at the Drunken Zombie Film Festival for having our Hooker at their event! And as we grab our shovels with celebratory shots in hand, we leave you with this and our most humble gratitude...

Fancy a Spot of Dead Hooker in the Boot?

We love the UK. Seriously. We have had such tremendous support since day one with 'Dead Hooker in a Trunk' from our overseas friends. One of the first festivals to show the first cut of the film was Ghouls on Film Festival which was a hit thanks to the horror fans that came out and the incredible Nia Edwards-Behi for having our Hooker in attendance. Now, Hooker has her final sexy cut and is going back overseas for the Manchester Premier Horror Festival: Grimm Up North 2. So what's going on?
"After careful consideration and a lot of hard work, the Grimm Up North team have announced their full festival lineup for 2010. Festival passes are still available for only £75, and individual tickets for all the main screenings will be on sale starting October 1st.

A festival pass provides access to the whole lineup of films, seminars, features, events and more with the exception of the Gala Opening Night events, tickets for which will also be available to purchase separately soon."
The lineup is fucking fantastic. If you can make it out and love horror, you must be there. The always horror-all knowing
Dread Central put up the lineup today and they look delicious, here's the awesome you will face at the fest:

"Full Lineup for Grimm Up North 2010THE GALA OPENING NIGHT-Thursday 28th October, The Dancehouse/Odder Bar

We kick off with a special showing of the 1964 horror/sci-fi classic LAST MAN ON EARTH starring Vincent Price - all set to live music from Animat. The electronica collective have been adding their audiological special sauce to movies for some time now, so we've invited them along to kick things off in spectacular style!

The special opening night Gala brings us the Northwest premiere of new Irish horror OUTCAST. Starring James Nesbitt (The Deep/Jekyll), Karen Gillan (Doctor Who), Therese Bradley (Young Adam) and James Cosmo (Highlander), this stylish psychological horror tells the story of a doomed romance between two young lovers as they are forced to deal with a community obsessed with bringing down a terrifying beast which has been killing locals.

THE BIG SCREEN FILM LINE UP
Films will run from the Friday: 2pm - 1.30am. Saturday: midday - 1.30am. Sunday: Midday - 8pm. The festival pass allows access to all these screenings. Exact schedule, TBC.

* AMER (France/Belgium) Northern Premiere
A love letter to the giallo genre and the work of such masters as Argento and Bava, Amer is a film that has been blazing a trail of its very own recently playing to a number of thrilled international festival audiences.

* ALIEN VS. NINJA (Japan) Northern Premiere
If you like aliens and you like ninjas, well, you know the rest. What would happen if a team of elite Japanese swordsmen came face to face with an army of terrifying bloodthirsty beasties in a beautiful forest location?

* BEDEVILLED (South Korea) Northern Premiere
A dark tale of revenge, Bedevilled shows us the life of a young woman who has been beaten down by life and those around her for many years on a small island. A challenging watch during its opening couple of acts, but Bedevilled will give you a climactic release you won't forget anytime soon.

* THE PACK (LA MEUTE) (France) Northern Premiere
In a snowy no man's land, loner Charlotte picks up a hitchhiker, Max, for security after being hassled by a motorbike gang. When Max goes missing, Charlotte's investigations lead her into a world of fear. Little does she know that she is being set up to take part in an unholy ritual! Visually arresting, Franck Richard's debut feature follows in the sick and slick tradition of recent French horror fare.

* CHOP (USA) UK Premiere
A wonderfully trashy grindhouse late-nighter, Chop is a blacker than black comedy which takes on the world of torture porn movies like Saw and Hostel. The directorial debut of Deadgirl screenwriter Trent Haaga, this is a weird little left-field shocker that will nail you to your chair.

* DEEP RED (Italy) New release
What better way to honour the upcoming high definition re-release of Dario Argento's 1975 classic Deep Red than offering our Grimmlins the chance to see it on the big screen? Known to many by its original title Profondo Rosso, this is the film that helped to cement its director as a genre legend.

* DREAM HOME (Hong Kong) Northern Premiere
What if you were prepared to do anything to get the house you've always dreamed of? Well, that's the attitude of Cheng Li-sheung, a young, professional woman who will brutally murder anyone who threatens her investment... and when I say brutally, I do mean brutally. We guarantee you've never seen anything like this.

* EVIL - IN THE TIME OF HEROES (Greece) English Premiere
A cheeky and innovative new take on the zombie genre - the story of a battle between humankind and zombiekind that has raged for thousands of years - with, erm, hilarious results. In addition, it also features Billy Zane as a mysterious undead-slaying prophet... so what more could you ask for?

* FRAGMENT (Australia)
When Lloyd takes photographs of dead people, he can bring them back to life... either that, or he's experiencing hallucinations brought about by cerebral damage. When a dead serial killer and one of his victims are resurrected, Lloyd falls for the victim and is forced to save her - leading to some tense horror and even a little necrophilic romance!

* FINALE (USA) Northern Premiere
After the unexpected death of one of their own, a bereaved family start to fall apart at the seams. What is the truth behind this mysterious world in which nothing is what it seems - and who is the mysterious soul collector who seems to be at the heart of it all? If you like dark, intense, Gothic supernatural thrills, Finale will be right up your alley.

* 13 HRS (UK) Northern premiere
A British horror starring some favourites from the world of TV and film (Hollyoaks' Gemma Atkinson and Harry Potter's Tom Felton), 13 HRS is the story of a group of teenagers who find themselves terrorised by a mysterious beast that is stalking the grounds of a decaying stately home. They are forced to put their differences aside and work together or face being torn limb from limb by the terrifying force that waits in the darkness.

* PRIMAL (Australia) Northern Premiere
We all know evil lives in the woods and nature should be treated with respect, but some kids just never learn. In Primal, six teenagers who clearly haven't seen Cabin Fever head out into the wild for a weekend of thrills that typically turn into horrifying chills. A terrifying and primordial evil takes hold turning them into rabid neanderthals that crave blood and flesh!

* THE REEDS (UK) Premiere
A bunch of 20-somethings head out for a weekend boating trip, but soon find themselves part of a deadly game at the hands of some locals. The group end up way off course and, once deep into the reeds, become easy prey for their pursuers. A great British offering, The Reeds is a wonderfully shot and performed slice of horror that makes the most of a limited budget.

* REEL ZOMBIES (Canada) English Premiere
A mockumentary that invites the viewer to watch as a hapless team of film-makers create the third film in their 'Zombie Night' trilogy. However, as the group are already living in a world where real Zombies roam, they decide to use the recently deceased as their cast. Big laughs, big explosions and big breasts, Reel Zombies is an absolute zom-com gem that is dripping with originality!

* SLICE (Thailand) UK Premiere
Bizarrely combining elements of Seven and Slumdog Millionaire, Slice is a tense and powerful horror-thriller that provides a sucker punch of an ending which will leave you reeling with your jaw on the floor. As intense in its modern day scenes as it is beautiful in its flashbacks, this is a fantastic opportunity to see a movie that truly deserves some serious attention.

* WE ARE WHAT WE ARE (Mexico) Northern premiere
Already created a fantastic buzz on the festival circuit and will now be heading to Manchester to give North West audiences the chance to see what all the fuss is about. We Are What We Are has been cited by some as having done for the cannibal genre what Let The Right One In did for vampires. Along the way, this family drama goes to some very dark places and combines a rich, engaging plot with some fresh ideas and a heart-wrenching climax.

* SURPRISE FILM (TBC)
There's one spot we have on our schedule that we aren't quite ready to announce just yet! Rest assured, this is a movie we are very proud to have on board and can't wait to share with you - watch this space!

THE BREAKOUT ROOM
For 2010 we introduce the 'Breakout Room', where there will be all kinds of great things happening over the course of the festival. If you fancy something extra between movies, or need to take a break from the main screen, you will be well catered for.

We’ll showcase some very special low budget indie movies, documentaries, short films, talks and seminars and will screen some great items that we simply couldn't fit into our main schedule. Among these will be Sweatshop, a US film described by Buried.com as "a brutal horror that makes Saw look like it was produced by Disney"; Chased By Satan, a darkly funny Indonesian cross between The Ring and Final Destination; and Dead Hooker in a Trunk, an underground Canadian grindhouse movie directed, written by and starring identical twins Jen and Sylvia Soska with bags of punk rock attitude. This is the place to find those rare hidden gems by up and coming talent.

* SPLATTERHOUSE COMES TO GRIMM
This year, we will again be giving our Grimmlins a special sneak peek at an upcoming title - Splatterhouse. This latest guts-and-gore-fest from Namco Bandai brings the original 1988 arcade classic kicking and screaming into the world of modern console gaming, and we're delighted to be able to host it at our festival! As the title that first earned a "parental advisory" video game stamp, we are particularly excited to see what people think of its latest incarnation. Splatterhouse appears at Grimm ahead of its actual release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 later this year.

HALLOWEEN NIGHT
Finally, when the projectors stop rolling on Sunday 31st, the festivities will be far from over! Halloween night will see the first ever Grimm Up North Awards Party, where, beginning at 8.30 pm, we'll be announcing the winners of our inaugural ceremony while celebrating over a few beers. As our official festival bar, Odder have also arranged some very special food and drink deals for pass holders and revellers."

A huge, bloodsplattered, halloween-candy filled thank you to Laura Smith who invited 'Dead Hooker in a Trunk' to the festival. It is a true honor to be amongst such innovative and creative horror films. Thank you to all our friends that pass hooker around like, shucks, the hooker that she is! Drop us a line, send us your pictures, we want to know every gushing detail about the festival.

Grindhouse Dead Hooker Poster Perfection

Remember how cool those old grindhouse movie posters were? Even if you look at the international release posters of films - they have this different sexy edge. As I've said before, I am one of the luckiest girls in the world to be blessed with some really wonderful, supportive friends. Our good friend, Dissolved Paul (also the lovely hubby to Miss Gory Rae), designed the shit out of this throw-back 'Dead Hooker in a Trunk' poster.

Who is Dissolved Paul? He is an electronic musician from Glasgow and has been making and releasing material as Dissolved for many years. He is also a photographer, horror film addict and ghosthunter/bird watcher and all-round stellar, fucking brilliant gentleman. Thank you for this beautiful poster, sir, it will look so pretty sitting proudly on my wall.

Horrible Imaginings Hits San Diego with a Dead Hooker!

Hey, listen up, all! You, too, NPH!!

It's been said before, boys and grrls, but I mean it every bloody time!

Something wicked this way comes... this time, to San Diego. I dare say, something HORRIBLE is on the way... horribly awesome and terribly fantastical. And, yes, those are all real words (copyright of Twisted Twins Productions).

No, no, it's not the highly anticipated sequel to Dr. Horrible and his sing along blog, though that WOULD be pretty nifty.

And it's not San Diego's Comic Con, but I do believe y'all can strap on your tights if you really want to... I'm looking at you, boy wonder.

It's something special and it's the very first one ever. It's San Diego's first ever horror film festival, The Horrible Imaginings Horror Film Festival!! And DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK will be there with bells on! Brain child of dear twisted twin friend and supporter, Miguel Rodriguez, of the deliciously wicked Monster Island Resort Podcast. Check it out...

"Bringing the FRIGHT to San Diego! One of this city's first (the first?) film festivals dedicated to the HORROR GENRE.

The mission of Horrible Imaginings is to spotlight horror and it's various subgenres. From psychological thriller, to noir, to complete mayhem, the power of horror is its inherent ability to take our fears and exploit them--either to help us face them, or to just help us appease our dark sides. The number of subge...nres is a testament to the creative power behind this dark genre.

Starting with the psychological fears:
Michael Powell's 1960 masterpiece, PEEPING TOM
Lis Fies's smart and thrilling THE COMMUNE
Brenda Fies's shocking short DISTRAUGHT
Christopher Smith's supernatural noir short "For Us"

Late Night Extreme mayhem!
Fulci's stylish classic THE BEYOND
Jen & Sylvia Soska's grindhouse rollercoaster ride DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK
Chris LaMartina's gory high school slasher PRESIDENT'S DAY
Nicolas Simonin's atmospheric fright short DERAILED
Lis Fies's dark comedy CONSUMED

Including a terrifying artwalk, refreshments, and rooftop after party! Let's make this a success--San Diego needs some scares!"

More news on this wicked awesome event to come, including a little SOMETHING SPECIAL from your Friendly Neighborhood Twisted Twins and, heck, we very likely may even be there in the flesh!! Stay tuned, boys and grrls!

See you there!!

Hey, Neil! Wanna be my date?

Is that a yes?

XO,
Jen

All Things Horror continues to be All Things Awesome

Being one of the little guys (gals) out there, it truly means the world to us when we hear about people who fight the good indie fight and spread the word about our demented offspring aka film, DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK. All Things Horror has consistently been a huge supporter of dead hookers everywhere and, coincidentally, our film. Kenny Steven Fuentes had this to say...
"Last week, I recieved a phone call from an old friend.

"I just saw a movie listing for something amazing. I don't know anything about it, or what it is. But I need you to come with me. It's called Dead Hooker in a Trunk. And it's only five dollars."

On Wednesday, I found myself in the basement of the Somerville Theater handing over a five dollar bill for a film screening I knew nothing about.

"Hi. I'm here for Dead Hooker in a Trunk...?" my friend asked."

But don't be satisfied with that mere appetizer, feast on the main course.

Get the full film review HERE.

"Dead Hooker in a Trunk is a fantastic film." ~Kenny Steven Fuentes, All Things Horror

You know what, All Things Horror? YOU'RE pretty gosh darn fantastic yourselves. Blood soaked embraces your way!

We Came, We Played, We Brought a Dead Hooker...

If you could see me right now you would see a definitive shit eating grin painted across my crimson lips. And there ain't no cure for it. I woke up this morning to a series of photos from last night's DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK premiere at Bob and Barbara's Lounge in sweet old Philly.

We had no idea the event would be such a BIG HIT, though we did have a feeling that a wicked awesome place such as Bob and Barbara's would yield no lesser results. We did a little research before the event and discovered the following of their fine establishment... a) $3.50 will get you the SPECIAL, a shot of Jim Beam and a beer, a Pabst Blue Ribbon and b) don't you dare put on Journey.

We heard a grand time was had by all. We must thank everyone who made this event possible and everyone who came out! Without further ado, here is a photographic diary of the night!! Thank you everyone for inviting our Hooker to your party!!

I know those faces. SOMEONE'S watching Dead Hooker!!

Thank you so much, Philly! Clearly, you didn't come out to fuck around. You came out to rock!!

Blood soaked best to you all!
XO,
Jen
