Big Daddy Reflects on 2010

2010 is gone. A year filled with good, bad, and somewhere in the middle. Now is the time to look back, then move forward. What were the highlights? Well, as if nominating DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK for best screenplay and best direction for Big Daddy Awards wasn't enough, Big Daddy Horror Reviews has been kind enough to put the film on its year end summation.

"Or how about Dead Hooker In A Trunk? Up and coming writers / directors Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska took the simple idea of a group of friends discovering a dead hooker in their car trunk and then having these characters become involved in the most outlandish and most surprising situations imaginable. These films showed that horror film makers could still come up with high concept premises and stories."

The life of an independent feature exists only as far as people will support and pass along the piece. To be included in a year end piece along with so many other wonderful works is an immeasurable honor. Thank you, Big Daddy, for this privilege. Want to see where your favorites rack up? Read the entire thoughtful and witty article here.

Thank you for this, boys and girls. We have so many insane plans for 2011 that we are confident you will dig. We will be working hard to thank you for standing with us. Thank you.

Oh Daddy! Big Honor!

"So that time of year is upon us where we over at Big Daddy Horror Reviews get under way with the first annual Big Daddies. We figure mainstream commercial cinema gets the Oscars and The Golden Globes, so I figured it only fitting that the horror genre gets its own set of awards thus was born the "Big Daddies". The aim of the Big Daddies is to honor outstanding achievement in the horror genre including films that virtually no one saw to the independents to the very popular."

What an incredible idea! Here's the hugely humbling part - those sweet son of a guns at Big Daddy Horror Reviews have included us in the nominations for a Big Daddy.

I am very proud to announce that DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK has been nominated in the categories of outstanding achievement in Screenplay & Cinematography. We have been nominated for best screenplay. This is a huge honor. Thank you for including us on the list, especially with such strong pieces as -- Let Me In, All About Evil, Dear Mr. Gacy, and Survival of the Dead.

Stayed tuned as more films get announced in different categories! Can't wait to see how it all goes down. Congratulations to all our fellow nominees and thank you to Big Daddy for including our film.

Scott Ruth Made Me Cry Today

It has been an incredible year for DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK and as the year comes to an end, we are excited to announce that there will be release news in the new year! I checked my google alerts to find this --

With our HOOKER sitting proudly...

We're the middle piece! As if that wasn't enough of an honor - there was the write up (tears) which I'm not too much of a tough guy to admit, it truly touched me. It was incredibly thoughtful piece that really delved into the movie on the screen and behind the scenes.

"Throughout 2010, we've heard a great deal about the need to show support for independent horror. At times, this was being shouted from the rooftops, in an attempt to rally support for films that, whereas they may have indeed been independent in nature, they're budget and studio connections were a far cry from that of most independent films. I agree, as horror fans, it is paramount that we support independent cinema, and it's films like Dead Hooker In A Trunk that are truly deserving of our support!

Nearly every actor and actress who appeared on screen in this film also served the film in other areas, from camera operators and stunt coordinators to editors and cinematographers. This film is a work of art, and it's a labor of love. Love from fans of horror, and of film in general, who took that love and put it to work, creating a film of their own. And the love and respect that these men and women have for the the genre, as well as for movies as a whole, is very evident throughout the entire film. This is how a movie is supposed to look, sound and feel! There are many filmmakers out there, especially in Hollywood working with billion dollar budgets on films that no true fan of the cinema even cares to see, who could all stand to learn a great deal about the art of filmmaking, and the love that is required when making a movie, from Jen & Sylvia Soska, C.J. Wallis and everyone whose blood, sweat, heart, love and tears went into making Dead Hooker In A Trunk!"

Thank you so kindly, Scott Ruth - the Horror Examiner, for taking the time to watch the film, write this article - READ THE WHOLE PIECE HERE -, and rank the film as #3 - HERE - on your top twenty list for 2010. It is an immense honor to be on that list and to have such kind words said about the film and the team behind it. Thank you kindly, sir.

Big Daddy gets him some Dead Hooker In A Trunk

If you don't know, you SHOULD know that Big Daddy brings it. Hey, get your mind outta the gutter, I'm not talking about Ron Jeremy. I'm talking about Big Daddy Horror Reviews. Treat yourself to a little looky poo at their site HERE. Not that you need more convincing, but our dear friend, long time supporter of our Dead Hooker (and potentially dead hookers everywhere), and very talented reviewer, Brandon Sites, has treated us to a gore~geous review on the film.

"Group of misfit friends discover the body of a dead hooker after a night of hard partying and encounter all kinds of crazed, demented characters as they try to get rid of the body.

Ambitious directorial debut from the Soska sisters is a grindhouse/dark comedy/horror twist on The Hangover meets Very Bad Things that comes alive with energy, humor, and spirit. One entertaining vignette or quirky line of dialogue right after another. Plenty of surprises or twisted moments throughout right up until the finale. And after all the debauchery and blood that has spilled, it ends up being a sweet simple statement on the importance of friendship and the ties of sisterhood. The Soska sisters have started out with a film that perfectly reflects their vision as directors and have found their voice all in their very first film. No easy task considering some directors spend their entire career looking for their voice to begin with. Destined to be a cult classic!" ~Brandon Sites, www.bigdaddyhorrorreviews.com

We Twisted Twins would like to extend a very special thanks to mister Brandon Sites for his overwhelming support of us and our work and for taking the time to watch our demented little baby aka Dead Hooker In A Trunk.

Wanna join the likes of Big Daddy Horror Reviews and see Dead Hooker In A Trunk for yourself? Well, just drop us a line through our site and we'll do our very best to ensure it plays at a film festival or theatre (or "theater" for our American cousins) near you.

Bloodiest of best,
Your Twins

This Blog Rules (seriously)

As the new documentary comes together in post production, it continues to attract more attention. The documentary, "Please Subscribe", follows four internet personalities- TayZonday, David Choi, HappySlip, and Daxflame- as we get to know the people behind the massively popular videos.

The film-making team, CJ Wallis, Jen, and myself, were interviewed for This Blog Rules (it does, by the by) by Marko Drapic. It is our first joint interview on the project and, having just read the article, I think it is a damn fine one. Read for yourself here, girls and boys!
