See You In the UK!

EIGHT!

DAYS!

TIL LONDON!!

AMERICAN MARY is coming to your town with Jen, me, Mary herself, Katharine Isabelle, brought to you by the rad folks at Film4 FrightFest before it's Universal Pictures UK DVD/BluRay release.

"FRIGHTFEST AMERICAN MARY TOUR Following its recent successful UK festival run, including the world's first screening at FrightFest back in August, we are delighted to be able to bring this stylish horror thriller to UK cinemas for a theatrical tour in January 2013.

Writers/directors Jen and Sylvia Soska, and Mary Mason herself, lead actress Katharine Isabelle, will be returning to the UK to join Alan Jones, Paul McEvoy and Ian Rattray to introduce shows the length and breadth of the country. Kicking off at London's legendary Prince Charles Cinema on Friday, 11 January the tour will be calling at Edinburgh, Glasgow, Sheffield, Leeds, Bristol and Brighton. Full details of dates, cinemas and times can be found below.

One of the year's most horrific highlights, American Mary tells the story of student Mary Mason (Katharine Isabelle) who grows increasingly disenchanted with the American medical school that she is attending and the doctors that she once idolised. The lure of easy money sends a desperate Mary through the gruesome world of underground surgeries, but soon finds it leaves more marks on her than the freakish clientele.
Clever, sexy, funny and utterly gorgeous to look at, American Mary features a standout lead performance from award winning actress Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps), and puts the Soska sisters, a.k.a. the Twisted Twins, squarely at the forefront of modern genre filmmaking.

On both sides of the Atlantic, Jen and Sylvia Soska's American Mary has already been celebrated with more than a dozen international film festival honours, including Best Picture (LA ScreamFest, ShudderFest) as well as Best Director and Best actress (Toronto after Dark, LA ScreamFest, ShudderFest).

Total Film Magazine voted Katharine Isabelle Best Actress at FrightFest back in August, whilst SFX magazine called American Mary the 'Best of the Fest'.

Hey UK, See You in the Darkened Theatre - Get Your American Mary Theatrical Tix

HEY UK!!! ARE YOU READY FOR AMERICAN MARY THEATRICAL?

"If You've never heard of American Mary, Where have you been? American Mary isn't a grunge band, it's not a cupcake and it's certainly not a new colour on the spectrum. American Mary is a classic modern thriller/horror (can I say that?) that has been blowing audiences away around the world. Universal Pictures in the UK are giving this one a huge push and to celebrate the DVD and Blu-ray release on January 21st, the film i

s going on tour to some major and minor spots in the UK along with Directors Jen and Sylvia Soska and the star Katharine Isabelle.

Struggling to make financial ends meet while studying to be a surgeon, talented medical student Mary Mason (Katharine Isabelle) finds herself reduced to applying for work at a local strip joint in order to pay off her mounting debts, where she is unexpectedly called upon to perform some illegal emergency surgery on one of the club’s clients and is instantly rewarded with a significant cash payment. Word of Mary’s scalpel-work soon reaches one of the club’s dancers, who approaches her offering to pay handsomely for some off-the-books, extreme body-modification work on a friend. The ensuing surgery is a huge success and Mary’s skills soon attract the attention of an underground network of high-paying clientele, all looking for someone to administer procedures and body-mod work unavailable through the usual legal channels.

If you can't make the tour, you'll miss out on THREE very special women who will worm their way into your geeky hearts and claim your soul by the time the Q&A has come to a close. The Soska Sisters are a talent on the rise, catch them before they end up like their mentor and their bodyguards start roughing you up if you even attempt to get close. Get your free hugs while you can... they love to hug and talk and take photos. The lovely and very criminally underrated Katherine Isabelle is just as approachable. These three ladies were the toast of Frightfest 2012 and once you see American Mary you'll understand why.

The film will also be released on January 11th 2013 in select cinemas nationwide but I highly suggest you travel to these special events because American Mary is one of the most challenging and creative films you will see in 2013, grab the tickets, book in the date, you won't be disappointed!"

American Mary Brought to UK Theatres, Courtesy of Fright Fest!

By Ben Bussey

Here’s some news that will be music to the ears of many UK readers. Ahead of the previously announced Region 2 DVD and Blu-ray release from Universal on 21st January, American Mary will be doing a theatrical tour of the UK via FrightFest Presents, the new distribution arm of FrightFest. And if that didn’t get you going, perhaps this will: none other than Jen Soska, Sylvia Soska and Katharine Isabelle will be there in person at every screening.

Direct from the press release:

The tour will take in seven cities over seven dates, with introductions and post-film Q&As from the filmmakers, compered by FrightFest’s Alan Jones and Paul McEvoy.

Ian Rattray of FrightFest Presents commented: “After the fantastic reception both American Mary and the Soska Sisters got at FrightFest, we’re immensely proud to be able to partner Universal Pictures UK for the theatrical opening of the film. This is FrightFest Presents’ first step into theatrical distribution and American Mary is the perfect fit for us.”

Already one of the year’s most talked about genre films and the subject of immense praise far and wide, American Mary has actually proved to be a bit of a divisive film here at Brutal As Hell: Nia, as you might have noticed, loved it to death, and Steph was mostly very impressed as well, but Keri was considerably less enamoured. (I’m keeping my thoughts to myself for the time being.) But, as Keri noted, whether your reaction is positive or negative it’s definitely a film to stir debate, and“it’ll be interesting to see how opinion divides up (if at all) as the film inevitably reaches its wider audience.” Well, now’s our chance to find out…

DEAD HOOKER IN A THEATER

Yes, my darlings. It's theater time.

When we first started our DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK journey we were told of all the things that we wanted to do that were impossible. On that list was a theatrical release. They said we'd never, ever be able to have it in theaters. I'm so happy that "they" tend to be wrong more often than not.

IFC Midnight has welcomed our DEAD HOOKER into their loving arms and is bringing her to select theaters through a series of very special Midnight Screenings. As promised, we will be giving you the times and dates as we get 'em.
First up? DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK doubles with BELLFLOWER at the Downtown Independent in lovely LA. It'll be playing FRIDAY AUGUST 26th. Doors at 7pm, BELLFLOWER at 8pm, and then it's mother fucking DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK at 10pm sharp.

And I must say I just love this theater. Why? How is it that I know this place? The Downtown Independent Theater hosted the Viscera Film Festival last year. We attended, pimped our Hooker, met the fantastic femme fatales festival heads and creators Heidi HoneyCutt and Shannon Lark, and so many other outstanding women in horror I was smiling ear to ear like I was watching ONCE MORE WITH FEELING (that's a little something something for you Buff-hards). It is an absolute pleasure to have our DEAD HOOKER returning to a theater that was so damn good to us.

Now let's fill that bitch up. If you're ANYWHERE near LA, please come out and see our DEAD HOOKER. I'd love to get photos and hear you thoughts. Please help spread the word.

This Friday, blow off all your other plans and get your daily recommended serving of awesome, in Dead Hooker form.

Here's the address, boys and grrls! Let's make this one to remember...

Downtown Independent Theater
251 S. Main St.
Los Angeles, CA 90013
