Cinema Junkie Delivers the Goods at Comic Con

A great deal about how a person can reach success is rated on the people you surround yourself with. I know as a fact that without the people who have stood beside Jen and me and our work, that we could have and would have never been able to do the things we do - from our crew, our cast, our family, and our extended family in the horror community. It is at this time that I must sing the praises of one of the most hard-working women, dedicated to excellence with no holds barred, Beth Accomando, the Cinema Junkie.

If you are unaware of the awesome that is Beth, please click here to get caught up with the rest of the class. Jen and I have long dreamed of having the opportunity to go to Comic Con and with our sophomore film, AMERICAN MARY, fast approaching release, it was the chance of a lifetime not only to attend the convention as fans, but to promote the film. Being Comic Con first-timers, a lot of what the convention would be was unchartered territory for us, but Beth was there not only to support and guide us through the beautiful chaos, but she is the woman responsible for our autograph meet and greet as well as our panel.

Because Beth Accomando fucking rocks. She doesn't take no for an answer and she's the kind of woman that makes things happen. In this case, she gave us the experience of a lifetime where we got to speak on a panel discussing AMERICAN MARY with Jen, myself, Todd Masters (our master FX artist behind the film), and Paula Lindberg (our Ruby RealGirl and very first cast member) - all moderated by Beth.

Here is the full panel in all it's awesomeness for those of you that were unable to attend and those of you that want to relive the rad.

Here is the full article on AMERICAN MARY at Comic Con by Beth Accomando - take a read, pass it to your cool friends, and thank you for doing so!

I am going to be thanking Beth for the rest of my life for her kindness, and knowing her, she's just going to keep being so amazingly supportive of the independents and giving us the opportunity to do this. Thank you, Beth, we had the time of our lives and we owe it to you!

Post Comic Con Bliss & Humble Thanks to Those Who Made it the Time of Our Lives!

Today Jen and I have been hit with the 'nerd flu'. What is that? The loving nickname that the bug many people suffer post-Comic Con. Maybe it was from the crazy five days of nerd heaven, complete lack of sleep, or the sadness of having to leave the most perfect place on earth - I like to think it's something I caught from a Spider-man, Batman, Wolverine, Punisher, or Deadpool (second thought, almost definitely something from Poodle).

A most humble thanks to Randy Jablonka, our Batman and Bruce Wayne, our Soldier for Hollywood from our AMERICAN MARY team who was kind enough to show two Comic Con newbies the ropes, gets us our press passes, and keep us out of trouble. A very honoured thanks to Beth Accomando, the Cinema Junkie, who was the woman behind securing our AMERICAN MARY panel at the Con who has been a steadfast supporter of the indies and is just a remarkable woman. Check Beth's wicked article on her experience at the Con here.

I am still reeling from the incredible outpour of support, kindness, and fucking radness from the people at the Con and those in internet land that were unable to attend, but were there in awesome. We had our panel to a capacity room and many apologies to those outside that couldn't make it in. Thank you to all you fucking cool folks that stopped us, said hi, and have been the ones to make it even possible to do this for a living.

Thank you to all the sites that have been backing our insanity. I mean look at these incredibly cool folks pimping the Comic Con MARY and the new trailer! --

Here is our panel for you guys that weren't able to make it. We are going to be posting another clip with more of the panel very soon too!

There is a shit ton of pictures getting uploaded to Flickr right now. If you see any pictures of us from the Con, please send them along - took a shit ton and would love to see us hanging out with you (especially if we were all cosplaying together!)

A huge fucking stupidly honored and humble thanks to all of you that made this possible. In days, the new AMERICAN MARY trailer is at 10 000+ views. Holy fucking shit. Haven't seen her yet?

We are so excited to share this film with you all. Thank you for making it possible - your support gives a life to independent horror that it could never have without. Thank you for being amazing supportive friends to a pair of insane twins. We promise to keep working very fucking hard to somehow warrant the kindness you have shown us.

AMERICAN MARY TRAILER!!

LOVE YOU GUYS!!! MORE POSTS TO COME. MORE MARY TO COME. CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU LADIES AND GENTLEMEN TO SEE THE WHOLE FLICK!!

Dan Dillard interviews the Twisted Twins

If you don't already know horror writer Dan Dillard you should know that he is rad.

Very rad. And hilarious, too. As a writer he describes himself as more of a "typer" as the pen to the page is a long forgotten art form in these modern times. His books are equal parts wicked and awesome and include titles such as LUNACY, HOW TO EAT A HUMAN BEING, DEMONS AND OTHER INCONVENIENCES, and THE UNAUTHORIZED AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF ETHAN JACOBS. His work is wonderful and I do fancy a man who knows how to throw down one badass title.

"Title is so important. I know people who have seen the movie, bought the T-shirt, or put the bumper sticker on their car based on title alone. I have met producers who have just loved the title and I ask them what they thought of the movie and they reply that they haven't seen the movie. I tell them that it is good. And they reply doesn't matter with a title that good. It's true. A standout title is a great way to grab people's attention, especially when you don't have all the bells and whistles that big studios have to pimp their projects." ~ Sylv

We recently had the pleasure of chatting, well, typing to one another in one of the coolest interviews we've ever had the pleasure of taking part in.

Check out the interview in FULL RIGHT HERE.

And do take the time to check out our interviewer, author of awesome, Dan Dillard and his work RIGHT HERE.

*Do you have a creative process or is it more organic, taking a life of its own?

S: All our lives, we have been avid video gamers, comic book fans, and horror movie lovers. When the game or comic or movie was over - we would make up what might happen next or what might be cool if it also happened. Reimagining our favourite characters or made up characters in different situations and stories. We would draw them out. We would always be doing that sort of thing. It was just daydreaming, silly stuff, until we went into writing and directing - it seemed like a useless talent, now it's something that really aided us in being creative. A lot of our stories take on their own lives - there are two characters in MARY that just kept popping up and taking a larger role than initially intended. I like that organic feeling and Jen and I practically share a brain, so the initial creative part is really fun for us.

J: We've been making up stories our whole lives. It comes pretty naturally. Things inspire us. A definite part of the writing process is to entertain one another. More times than I can remember, I'll get onto my turn for writing and read over Sylv's last bit and just be all like, "DUDE! What the fuck?". But it's a good "what the fuck".

Fatally Yours,
Jen

Horror Nights at the Rio Presents SUICIDE CLUB!

This past Friday - July the 8th - marked our first kick off hostessing 'Horror Nights at the Rio' with Little Miss Risk. The Rio Theatre in Vancouver is a very special theatre - the last standing theatre in East Vancouver (not a easy task to be the ones fighting to keep the arts alive, but this team does it with class and panache). The film we were showing was the Japanese indie horror gem - SUICIDE CLUB.

Showing such a rad film that won 'Most Ground-Breaking Film' at the Fantasia Film Festival, that has developed a cult following for its highly controversial subject matter and its excessive ultra gore seems like show enough, but these days you need to get the epitome of bang for your buck and with a town as lively and loving of horror as Vancouver - it had to be a fuck of a show.

First a totally winged horror show trivia (where admittedly, I was the only one who didn't know the answer to my own question), then opening the show was a SUICIDE CLUB themed bloody number by AMERICAN MARY alumnus Tristan Risk and the Queen of Halloween, Spooksy DeLune.

After getting soaked in the gushing fake red stuff with two of the city's most beautiful and talented burlesque performers, what can you do to top that? Real blood and there's only one man for the job, the human tackle box, our flesh art consultant from AMERICAN MARY, and one of the coolest guys on the scene, Russ Foxx.

But that is not all. Jen and I fell hard for the performance of one of the standout stars of the film, Rolly Teranishi. Jen got in touch with Rolly's team and was able to get an exclusive to this event opening for the film from Genesis himself, Mr. Rolly Teranishi.

The show was a blast - and the first of many to come. Always with a big show, special surprises, and prizes for those in attendance.

A very huge and humble thanks to everyone who made the event possible, the show a success, and the team at the Rio that always supports the indie flicks and filmmakers. See you guys next month, and for many months to come!

Loved getting to meet so many of you the other night and share a deeply disturbed love of horror. The horror community consists of the best people on the planet - this evening just re-confirmed it.
