Dread Central Sees Some Evil 2

""I think a lot of people are surprised that See No Evil 2 is our next film, but if you knew us during our teens, it would make perfect sense," say the Soskas. "It wasn't even a match that initially caught our attention; it was The Undertaker in the ring talking about this dark secret and his brother. It was so engrossing that we were instantly hooked. The excitement continued for weeks as we were planted in front of the television every week leading up to Bad Blood/Hell in a Cell, where the buried past brother made his debut to the announcer's screams, 'This must be Kane!'"
"There is no show on earth like what you see in the WWE and it only makes sense that they would translate that high level of entertainment to film, starting with See No Evil starring our personal favorite, Kane. Many years have past since then. We never became the first female twin tag team wrestlers that we dreamed of - the beautiful Bellas hold that honor - and we went on to become horror directors.""

Official Twisted Twins "SEE NO EVIL 2" Statement

"We are beyond excited to be pairing with WWE Studios and Lionsgate on SEE NO EVIL 2. We’ve been WWE fans from way back in the day. We actually started watching in the very time frame that Kane was introduced. I had no idea what I was getting into when we were channel surfing and saw the Undertaker addressing the crowd, pleading for them to hear his side of the story regarding his fabled brother. From that very moment, we were hooked and you can be damn sure we were watching that fated PPV event, Bad Blood, during Hell in a Cell, when Kane dynamically made his debut. To be working with Kane is very special for us.

That very year, Lionsgate Entertainment formed in our own hometown of Vancouver and since has proven itself again and again to be a trailblazer in the film industry. It’s been a long time aspiration for us to work with both these phenomenal companies and to be able to work with both on this project is truly a dream realized.

Great things come in twos, proven more so by the sensational script penned by Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby and though our lips our sealed as to any details on the story itself, we can say that even those who think they know what they’ll be getting are going to be blown away. We could not be happier." ~Jen and Sylvia Soska

Twisted Twins & Kane, See No Evil 2

"I had a brief exchange with Sylvia Soska, and she stated:
'Jen and I grew up watching and going to the WWE events right when Kane was introduced, so this is a dream come true to be working with WWE Studios and Lionsgate – both companies we have a huge amount of respect for – to bring SEE NO EVIL 2 to life in a way no one sees coming.'
To be honest, I found the first film to be a tad underwhelming. Kane makes for an awesome specimen of terror, but the story was uninspired, and fell into standard slasher tropes. If this is to become a franchise, it will have to elevate its game and distinguish itself from the rest of the pack. I now have some faith, that if the studios don’t interfere, the Twins can bring us something special. If you’ve seen their previous works, they can do wild, balls-to-the-wall grindhouse, as well as venture towards more artistic and clinical expressions of gore. If they can find the right balance, and make this film look as well shot as AMERICAN MARY, we may just have something here. At the very least, they get horror. Being fans first, they tend to make the kind of films that they themselves want to see. That’s a good start. I’m now actually looking forward to this film."

See No Evil 2 to be Directed by the Soska Sisters

"WWE Studios is bringing “See No Evil” back to life, producing a sequel with Lionsgate to the horror film that will again star wrestler Kane as a psychopath that goes on a killing spree.
“See No Evil” was the first film that WWE produced through its film division, and went on to earn $19 million worldwide when it was released in 2006 — its biggest hit until this year’s Halle Berry thriller “The Call,” which generated $52 million to date.
Production on “See No Evil 2″ will start in the fall, with identical twin helmers the Soska Sisters Jen and Sylvia (“American Mary”) set to direct. They are also among the directors that will contribute to the anthology series “ABCs of Death 2.”

Kane will return as the reclusive madman Jacob Goodnight, who rises from the dead in the city morgue after his killing spree at the Blackwell hotel and goes after a group of medical students who fight to survive. Nathan Brookes and Bobby Lee Darby are co-writing the script.

In Gregory Dark’s first film, Kane’s seven-foot tall, 400-pound character has a rusty steel plate screwed into his skull and razor-sharp fingernails as he stalks a group of juvenile delinquents tasked with cleaning up an abandoned hotel."

Time For Unity

What I like about superhero stories is the duality. Maybe because I'm a twin, maybe because I'm fascinated with the struggles we face while living out different aspects of our lives.

My favorite stories reflect the times we live in and the struggles we face and I know in the years to come we will look at the leaps in equal rights we are fighting hard for today especially in the LGBTQ community.

It is an honor to share UNITY, a graphic novel series by Fwah Storm which follows a hero who faces these struggles of duality not only in her sexuality but also as a hero herself. The first issue has just come available, please take a moment to check it out and share.

The Goreterly's Top Ten Directors to Get Excited About in 2013

"Greetings all fans of horror and awesome! This weekend we are bringing you a Top 10 list that we feel could potentially make your weekend that much more enjoyable–and terrifying! We have been watching far too many movies as of late, if that were possible, and jotting down some directors we feel exceeded our expectations! We’re really proud to see some female directors make this list because, unlike some blogs, we actually celebrate the gender of our directors to help illuminate the success of everyone–and we just like to rub it in the faces of all those dickholes that feel film should be left to the patriarch. There–we got our feminist rant out of the way. Let’s get to some directors!"

American Mary Plays in Winnipeg with a Skype Q & A with the Twisted Twins this Friday

"Seen as a pair of twisted twins in their horror movie American Mary, Jen and Sylvia Soska are an unnervingly creepy duo.
But behind the camera, as the directors and writers of the film, they are utter charmers, at least according to actress Katherine Isabelle, who was easily enchanted into playing the titular blood-drenched, scalpel-wielding anti-heroine by the 30-year-old sisters.
"When I first met them, we were supposed to meet for sushi at a normal dinner time around 6 o'clock, and we ended up going out till, like 4 in the morning, having a total blast," Isabelle says. "We were, like, instantly best friends. "They are so fascinating to be around, to watch their brains work," she says.
"You fall in love with them instantly and they inspire passion in everyone else. We all really, really wanted to make them happy." It's fair to say making movies make the Soska sisters very happy indeed. The Vancouver-spawned siblings first exploded on the scene in 2011 with a lurid $2,500 dark comedy titled Dead Hooker in a Trunk.
From there, they looked to Hollywood to solidify a career, but the experience of taking meetings with creepy Hollywood power players left an imprint on their second film, American Mary, in which Isabelle's medical student is abused by the "respectable" medical establishment and takes refuge in the underground world of body modification."

MTV Geek Talks to Mary

MTV Geek: What attracted you to the role? What made you want to be Mary?

Katharine Isabelle: I was sent the script and was given a just a very brief—like oh, it’s from identical twin sister writer-director horror filmmakers--I ended up reading the whole script, the whole 180 pages, on my Blackberry twice. I immediately got sucked in. Being Mary is a very unique character especially, you know, in film and as a female. You don’t often see women in film portrayed the way that Mary is. She has some redeemable qualities, like she’s not ever really nice to everybody, but you still really like her. You know, I think she smiled once. [Laughs]. She’s not the typical charming, sweet character—she’s dark, she’s weird, she’s funny. I don’t think they try at any point in the movie to force you to like her—you either do or you don’t. Without her having to be all sunshine-y and that was something that I found intriguing because as a woman, and a woman in film, there’s often a few stereotypes that you can fit into. To have a character that’s that unique and also with the script itself being so original and well-written and of course once I met the girls, we became instant best friends. So there’s no way I couldn’t [Laughs].

Geek: That’s kind of an interesting element to Mary. She’s in this weird place between being an exploitation character and also a victimized character, but she’s neither of those things really. She seems to own her experience pretty early on. What did you think about that? Just that ambiguity to her that’s not neither here nor there. She’s not out for revenge exactly, she’s not out for…

Isabelle: Well exactly, she’s pissed that she allowed herself to be, sort of and somewhat, victimized. That’s why it’s hard to describe the movie in general. It’s being marketed simply as the horror movie, and I’m like “Well it’s not really a horror movie. There’s no scary scenes.” There’s nothing really all that gory and there are some horrific elements definitely to it—but it’s the same thing with Mary. It’s hard to describe her as as a revenge character, or the movie a revenge story or any of those things—and that’s what I think is really intriguing. She doesn’t easily fit into a box. It’s rare to find characters like that these days in film. So I mean obviously it was something that I was thrilled to find [Laughs].
